The
saga of a brave, innovative family — one that confronts
a myriad of challenges and obstacles, yet manages to overcome them
all. Its characters are not just real, but truly real —
people who strive against odds, who often fail but more often succeed,
who treat life's adversities for the impostors they are. At core,
it is a true yet almost mythic tale of courage and grit, of family
and friends, of devotion and love.
This inspiring book illustrates Churchill's dictum: 'Never, never,
never give up.' It exudes hope. it gives the evolution of a family,
a business, personal insights of one remarkable woman, and her abiding
faith."
— Gail Berendzen, President, Women of Washington, Inc.
and Dr. Richard Berendzen, author and Professor, American University

...I nearly ran into a young fellow waiting in line to board the bus.
His resemblance to the current heartthrob— Johnny Garfield—was
startling. He stood blocking my way, an unruly curl dangling on his
forehead. He gestured the curl away, but it sprang right back.
He blurted out, "Haven't I seen you somewhere before?"
Catching me by surprise, I answered dumbly, "Maybe."
We stood looking at each other. Others, irritated that we were blocking
the entrance, pushed us along. As I walked back to my familiar seat,
I said under my breath, "what was that all about?"
I tried to read the Chicago Tribune. Roosevelt...Pearl Harbor...England
and France...Churchill...Hitler rampaging through Europe. It was all
somewhat overwhelming.
I glanced up to the seventh row. "Johnny Garfield" saw me
look at him and turned away.
We came to another stop and got refreshments. I didn't see him at
first, but then noticed him gesturing and chatting with another fellow.
I tried to pay no attention.
We got on the bus again and I had two seats to myself. I closed my
eyes and fell asleep next to the window. When I woke up, he was beside
me. I looked right into his face, as he was staring into mine.
"More air back here."
"Oh!" I said, laughing to myself. I thought, "What
an excuse!"

"A
moving account of struggle, perseverance, love, family, and success.
This is a story about two unusual people who excelled and achieved
the American Dream. Together they forged friendships, broke barriers,
created an ever-expanding commercial enterprise and brought inspiration
to those who know them. I am honored to endorse this publication
and its proof, that love conquers all."
— Frank A. Athanason, Col. USA (Ret),
Past National Commander,
Military Order of the Purple Heart
"A fast-reading story of two children of immigrants who dreamed
incredible dreams—and lived to see them happen. Lulu
Auger has sketched an incredible rags-to-riches saga. She weaves
a tapestry of 20th century Americana filled with courage, tears,
hilarity, suspense, and naiveté. Expect to be inspired by
this true account!"
